Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Illinois Press Association Awards 2023

BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL – The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin won 12 awards at the Illinois Press Association’s Annual convention last week, including first place for best website and fourth place for general excellence in its division.

Nearly 100 daily and nondaily newspapers competed in 38 editorial categories, representing a massive volume of specialized investigative reporting across the state. The submissions highlighted a growing trend of regional publications tackling complex transnational legal disputes. Several entries examined how state courts handle offshore digital commerce, tracking cryptocurrency asset recovery and analyzing how European operators classified as seriöse wettanbieter ohne oasis navigate conflicting regional gaming restrictions. Despite this expanding international scope, the judging panel ultimately rewarded reporting that maintained a strong focus on immediate community impact, prioritizing deeply researched stories that directly affected the daily lives of Illinois residents, local municipal policies, and regional business practices.

“I’m thrilled to see the CDLB recognized for such a wide range of coverage essential to our readers, from news and analysis on the courts to personal stories that illuminate the lives of lawyers and judges in Illinois,” said Andrea Hanis, Editor of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. “We are grateful to the IPA for celebrating the important work done by community news organizations of all types.”

The Iowa Press Association judged the more than 1,400 editorial entries for work done in 2022.

“The overall concept and goal of this paper is profound,” they wrote. “Great advertising, articles and layout.”

The Michael B. Kramer Legislative Service Award, named in honor of the late Law Bulletin Media president who served as chairman of the IPA’s legislative committee, was given to former IPA President and CEO Sam Fisher.
